Niel: I'm interested in this thread, please do post what you end up with. I'm heading towards a DVR myself, but could also pick up a low cost ex-least PC and de-rating the processor so you do not need a fan and fit a larger heat sink might also work well.

Whatever you use make sure the GPU is capable of H.264 hardware acceleration if you plan on using the PC doing the recording for playback. An old PC without this will be fine for recording, but will choke on playback.

billgates: Dahua makes great CCTV gear. They are an OEM and never sell under their own brand name. Other companies like Liniovision, Qvis etc rebrand Dahua gear.

I bought mine from Aliexpress. Including DHL shipping, it was NZ$166. I know people in USA using this with 16GB and 32GB micro-sd card (it has a slot) set on motion detection. And a lot of people are using this with Synology NAS like DS212J and it's built in surveillance station as this Camera supports ONVIF.

I bought mine of this seller below.

With the SD card, do they just fill the card and stop or do they fill the card and then start writing over the old stuff - effectivly looping?

It just overwrites the old footage, from memory it's a selectable option in the camera GUI. The PSS software has the same option running on a PC.

Okay well I have ordered up one of those - will have a play when it gets here - should be fun!

Without dropping the res too much, how much footage would you expect to get from a 32GB card? 4 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours...

The two cameras I installed a few weeks ago were recording 1080p @ 4Mbps @ 10FPS and (from memory) I got around 3 days on a 250GB HDD using the PSS software. This setup has now been switched over to motion detection.

billgates: I have added an update to my post above btw.

I have only used the Synology NAS personally and that too the DS212J model after frietasm's recommendation. Did some more bing searches and the surveillance station was rated really high in terms of performance and usability. Dahua is not listed as an officially supported device in any of the Synology's NAS but all their NAS's are ONVIF compliant and so are Dahua IP camera's. If you need the real deal then let me know and I can setup a remote access to my NAS for you to access my Dahua dome CCTV on the Synology.

Hi billgates, I've purchased the Dahua ipc-hdb3200cp via aliexpress, more or less after your recommendation. Looking great so far. Can connect to the camera's website, see the video and I'm liking the many configuration options.

Having trouble adding the camera to my Synology DS411 surveillance station though.

On the Add Camera dialog I add the proper name and IP address and username and password and select [ONVIF] as brand and Generic_ONVIF as camera model. I'm not completely sure which port it's expecting, so I've tried the HTTP port 80, TCP port 37777, UDP port 37778 and RTSP port 554.

Keep getting the same message when I click the Test Camera button (note that the message is instantaneous for all ports, except for 37777. Takes about a minute before it pops up...

"Failed to connect the camera. Please check the following settings of the camera: IP address, hostname, port number."

Can you explain what you did to get it to work?

Camera software version 2.103.0000.0.R, build : 2012-07-24, Web version 3.0.0.0
Synology surveillance station: 5.1-2209; DMS 4.0-2228.

Any help is much appreciated!

Also if anyone needs the latest firmware for the IPC-HDB3200C then let me know as I now have one that was published in April. My camera came with firmware from January. It's fixed night quality issues. Even better now.

The error message is now simply "Camera test failed". When I click the Finish button, it says "Failed to load camera capabilities values"...

Odd. I am at work right now but I am positive that it's 9988. Will confirm tongiht and post screenshot. Sounds like you have the right settings and options configured.

Chances are, your camera will come with the latest firmware pre-installed like rickiee's one did. If not then I can upload it somewhere and drop the link here. You can check for the camer'as version info by web on to it and go to system information menu. if the month is past April 2012, then you have even the latest firmware as to what I have.

This is the exact same copy of firmware I have as well on my camera so not a firmware issue. I have used it with DSM 4.0 and DSM 4.1 on Synology. Will post those settings tonight.

ps - Don't upgrade your NAS to DSM4.1 beta. It's horrible. It's slow. i cannot revert it. Waiting for an update from Synology.
